Finally! An LED replacement for a 150W G40 (5" Globe)!
I am very pleased to have found this LED bulb to replace the 5" Globe Incandescent above our nook area. It would take 10 of these LEDs to consume power at the rate of just one incandescent equivalent. I like that it is 3000K - 2700K to 3000K is considered a "soft white" or "warm light" similar to that of an incandescent bulb. This bulb really looks just like the incandescent bulbs I used to purchase (all too frequently) and I expect the cost to be more than off-set by both its longevity and lower power consumption. This is an early review, so I'll update and downgrade the 5 star rating if necessitated by any problems.I've been updating the lighting in our home to LED bulbs and was stuck trying to find a G40 bulb that was of sufficient illumination and that looked nice. The style of our light fixture exposes the bulb and requires it to be a nice globe shape to look presentable. Prior Amazon searches were unsuccessful until now! Why am I so excited to have finally found one and taking the time to write this review? LED bulbs are far, far superior to any compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb. I mostly prefer them because they more closely resemble the incandescent lights I grew up with. However, there is a long list of benefits over CFLs: LEDs are more energy efficient, last longer, don't contain mercury, look more like traditional incandescent bulbs, don't have a warm-up period to reach full brightness, are generally instant-on, and behave better with dimmers (although when using dimmers with some of my LED bulbs I have noticed the slightest of delays after flipping the switch for them to turn). This is by no means an all-inclusive list and I am not an expert in the field of lighting. I just know that I will never, never purchase another CFL bulb again and I welcome the warmth (not thermal warmth, but the ambiance) that LED lights have brought back to our home in the post-incandescent era. Also, in two years time we have noticed the savings on our power bill, which off-sets the initial cost.

Warm White? NOT!
If this is a "warm light" bulb, then I'm The Easter Bunny. I removed an incandescent "warm white" bulb that offered wonderful ambiance, and now the room looks like an exceedingly BRIGHT WHITE hospital surgical suite. Dimmer settings notwithstanding, this bulb remains 100% BRIGHT WHITE. My entire home is filled with LED's from a wide range of manufacturers and at no time did any of those LED's ever disappoint me until this MaxLite LED shine pure white into my earthy home. I'll be better off using this as a bench light in my garage. I added two photos. One in full power dimmer mode and the other dimmer to 25%. Ugh!

perfect
This is the very first LED version of the large globe lamp style that I've been able to find, and it works amazingly well. The light is very bright, much more so than a halogen G40 with the same supposed incandescent wattage equivalence which I used previously. It has a reasonably warm color tone, not as yellow as a traditional incandescent but much more comfortable than the bluish ones. It responds perfectly to a dimmer switch without buzzing, flickering, delay, or staircased brightness steps. The opaque white base spoils the globe shape slightly, since it means that part of the sphere isn't emitting any light, but that's mostly hidden by the fixture where I'm using it, a downward-opening Holophane cone.

A real winner for a dining table downlight
I bought this unit for a diningroom table lamp where I'm currently using a 150 W regular tungsten bulb inside a 7" diam glass globe. The Tungsten bulb runs very hot, burns out every few months, and uses a lot of electricity...and expensive proposition. I've tried using 75-watt-equivalent LED bulbs and they're way too dim...even though they face down, their most efficient use. This bulb is much more expensive when compared to conventional LED bulbs, but boy does it shine in this application.1) The bulb is very bright...not up to the 150W tungsten, but close enough, and it has a very pleasant 3000K color temperature without a hint of green that shows with some tungsten-color replacement LED bulbs.2) The bulb is very uniformly lit, providing a VERY attractive replacement to my previous 7" globe. Given its 5" diameter, I use this bulb without a globe...so it also stays real cool.3) As an unexpected added benefit, it works with my previous light timer that needs power conducting thru the bulb when turned OFF. I was ready to install a new timer that uses a separate continuous power feed, but before I got it installed I found this LED bulb working just like my previous tungsten bulb with the timer. No need for a new timer, which turns the light on every evening when we're not at home.4) AND it only uses 15 watts....one tenth of my tungsten bulb...and hopefully doesn't need replacement for many years. This is a real winner for this application!

Bright and good color, but jumpy brightness at the dimmest settings
The bulb is nice and bright and has a good color. The 3000K color is plenty warm without getting too far into the yellow spectrum, and works great for the dining room fixture we have it in. I have noticed that the dimming is a little bit less than smooth near the bottom 25% of the range. I have used it with both a Lutron Caseta and Leviton Decora smart dimmer and both of these switches will slowly dim the bulb over 2-3 seconds when you turn the switch off. And with both switches I noticed that the bulb dimmed smoothly from full power, but as it neared the bottom of the range it would stop dimming momentarily, then snap off suddenly. Perhaps a nit-picky thing, but considering the single bulb cost over $20, I expected better.

Five Stars
Great light bulbs. Brighter than incandescent and a lot cooler.

This lamp is indeed flicker free and 14 W
This was an excellent replacement lamp for a 150 W incandescent bulb. Had tried other LED lamps which my wife found annoying because of inherent flickering. This unit is really flicker free and the color temperature of 3000 Kelvin works well as an overhead kitchen lamp.
